Biography

Danygil is a French painter born in March 1962 in Orian, Algeria. While the war in Algeria came to an end and the country's independence was declared, the French people living in Algeria were forced to flee.

 

It is 4 months old that Danygil, her brother and her parents find themselves forced to leave their home and were deported to France, taking only two suitcases, outfits worned and the pram of Danygil. The arrival on the French territory was very painful, because they felt uprooted in France, in their homeland, where they are treated like strangers.

Despite the difficulties, she grew up in a loving and united family. It is through dialogue and exchange that she learned tolerance, respect and openness. Born into a family of artists (singers, dancers, musicians, painters), it is very naturally that she wanted to try the art, with a fondness for painting.

 

Her father, Pierre GIL, who died in 2002, was a very talented painter who had never been to art school because of the opposition of his parents and, therefore, had learned by himself how to paint. Officer, he spent his spare time painting, using the knife, the brush and pastel. This is by observing him for hours that Danygil learned to draw and to paint.

 

At 15 years old she realized secretly in her room her first artwork which was the portrait of a horse with its mane in the wind charcoal. After finishing it and being fully satisfied she decided to show it to her father. But she reaped a "Nah, it's not great. You can do better. ". Very disappointed, she decided not to draw or paint anymore. Thereafter, she turned to other artistic and cultural disciplines: dance, theater, fashion and film.

In 1984, she decided to go on holiday to Agadir in southwest of Morocco. But the journey that should last a week became a stay of thirteen years long. Not far from her homeland, she becomes attached to Morocco that she now considers her country's "heart." Indeed, it is there that she met the man of her life and she gave birth to their children.

 

During these years in Morocco, she has accomplished numerous experiences, in the field of business and in the arts. In 1997, she had to return to France in Paris with her husband and their three children with a lot of grief and a strong desire to return.

In the 19th district of Paris, she founded an association,  Bulles d’Oxygène, which helps local people including youth at the professional and social integration through cultural and artistic activities. To finance the actions of the non-profit organization, the President of the association Bulles d’Oxygène, Myriam ZAINE, wanted to seek an artist who could sell his work on behalf of the association, this artist will be Danygil.

 

In June 2010, after thirty-three years of no practice and technique, it takes the tools, paints and canvases and started painting. Since then, she has completed nearly 120 paintings which takes the theme of the project of the Association Land of Memories, a theatrical and musical performances on the theme of slavery. Her paintings  Land of Memories of two categories: Land of Memories Africa and Land of Memories Maghreb / Middle East.

Her canvas show the beauty of Oriental and African cultures she is fond of. The paintings Land of Memories Maghreb / Middle East are mainly inspired by her memories, by photos of Morocco, by landscapes and unusual places she has admired and especially by the people met: their beauty, their hospitality, their experiences.

 

Through her paintings, she seeks to educate people by tackles themes such as suffering, hope and love. To achieve her artworks, she implements her own painting techniques provided by her father and saved to him from using the brush, knife, potato, sponge and scraper. Danygil is now an accomplished artist, increasingly recognized, who leverages its expertise and passion to profit association also engaged and invested it.
